The Sweet Tooth Dream

I found this article just now and it couldn’t have come at a better time: I am half a minute away from grabbing a chocolate bar from the kitchen and I am trying to cut down a few kilos.

The article: Scientists create chocoholic dream: all the taste with none of the calories.

A new inhaler – dubbed Le Whif – has been developed by scientists, allowing chocoholics to enjoy all the treats they can handle for zero calories.

Scientists create chocoholic dream: all the taste with none of the calories

It’s a little funny, I think. I am not sure if it will satisfy cravings though, as to me, chocolate craving is also about unwrapping, the biting, and the melting.

When are they going to create 0 calorie real chocolate, just like diet soft drinks?

This whiffer thing is still worth a try though, I think. What do you think?

On September

September is gone, and for the first time in years, the local saying “September’s tail is wet” actually worked.

September (as well as the first of October) also marked my three brothers’ birthdays- Hisham, Omar, and Gus- so happy birthday kiddos. It was also Musa’s brother’s birthday, so happy birthday to you too!

As you can see from these pictures, it was a cozy month, with a lot of family vibes. Which is great, when you have a family as wonderful as mine :)

Nido

I was very pleasantly surprised today to discover that Nido tastes exactly like icecream. I haven’t had Nido in years, although it was the only milk I would drink as a toddler. Then we moved to Saudi Arabia and then came the brilliant Saudi dairy industry…

These days, I usually stick to low-fat Klim (and yes, I don’t like “real” milk, it smells like cows).

On an unrelated note, while Googling for Nido images, I came upon this very interesting blog, called the Nido Generation;

“I am a product of the nido-generation myself. I hate it, no doubt about it. I try to change this and break free from its shackles, but the nido bubble is a strong self-enforcing entity which always comes back to encircle you with its charms and misdeeds. I am a self-hating nido-er. This blog is a chance for me to exorcise my nido demons. God-damn you, nido.”

Nablus, circa 1955

My cousin just added this vintage photograph of the family to Facebook. My father is the third one from the left on the bottom row, and my grandfather is the man holding the baby. Everyone else in the picture are my dad’s brothers and sisters.

This photograph was taken in Nablus, Palestine, and was probably taken around 1955.

The Blind Spot Race

Close your left eye and focus on the star, moving closer to screen until your blind spot kicks into gear and the circle disappears. Pretty nifty, eh? For more, check out this little interesting flash game that makes you think more about blind spots.

More Goldfish Experimentation

As if it’s not enough to play resurrection with them with the most disgusting drink in the world, people are now using them as a natural recycling tool too, except this is really freaky.
Because oil floats on water, despite the heat (163 degrees Celsius) the goldfish smartly stay away from the surface and all is well. They eat the crumbs of croquettes and other fried foods that fall to the bottom, ignorant to the fact that certain death awaits any potential escapees.A brilliant idea, but evilly brilliant. Poor goldfish.

In Japan, the Goldish live in deep-fryers.
