Life in a Time Without Cellphones
Are we on for sure? What if I get there and they’re not there? What do I do if I get to a place with at least 50 people and do not find them? Especially a place with so many levels and doors and places to sit. What if they decided to not go since we haven’t communicated about this event for the past three hours? It would be really awkward if we all go and no one can find anyone else. Especially since it’s a movie! It will be dark. What if it rains and they cancel the screening, anyway?
And then, what do I do after I’m done with the movie? I told my friends I will meet them at Negresco at nine, but maybe the movie will take longer, and then they will think I’m not coming anymore. What if I get there and find no one there? Do I just sit anyway and wait? Do I leave? Do I find someone with a non-Zain phone and call one of my friends with a non-Zain phone? That doesn’t make sense. All my friends use Zain and they probably won’t be together as everyone has different plans before nine.
Ohmygoodness.

Most Zain users apparently can’t make or receive calls today (system maintenance, says the rumor mill). That means no picking up the phone spontaneously and deciding on what to do. It means no WhatsApp planning. Worse yet, it means you can’t find people.
This is awkward.
