Things that made me happy today

Was just thinking about how amazing it is how the simple things can make people really happy. Here’s what made me smile today:

1. Finding a kick ass new route back home from work. I’ve been looking for an alternative route to Shmeisani that’s not Gardens Street nor Rabyeh, but all the streets that branch off Gardens seem to be deadends. Today, I finally found what I was looking for.

2. Finding Pop Tarts at Safeway, and them being REALLY yummy.

3. Eating really yummy knafeh bi2eshta.

4. Using an automatic coffee machine at home. I’ve always wanted one, though I’m pretty unpicky with my coffee. I ended up getting the wrong kind of coffee though.

5. Finding tiny hair pins at Safeway while looking for Pop Tarts. I’ve been looking for some for years, and they’re always either oversized or overpriced.

Oh I was thinking the same thing yesterday, two things that made me happy were:
A grown woman walking down an up escalator (then getting a look halfway through like uh oh, what am I doing?)

And two cars beeping at each other to make a little melody while waiting for the cars ahead of them.

    1) East of the Mississippi, I’m known as the “Route King!” I zig-zag about with precision, mentally kicking trafficy roads like your hated Gardens Street …………….! 2) I don’t care what anyone says, I know my delicious cinnamon Pop-Tarts that I eat all the time are REALLY good for me! 3) Yeah, that stuff is yummy good. 4) An automatic home coffee machine?! Wowza… that rare & exotic find must have cost you a fortune to try out. They’re Nepalese Himalayan, right? :D 5) Ooooh nooo….. glad you found ‘em! :P

One of my kid’s fav songs was a Veggie Tales ditty, which included the chorus: “A thankful heart is a happy heart”.

It’s when we forget to be thankful for the simple joys of life that we lose our joy. These are all happy little things…except the new route home, that is a MAJOR achievement.

I acquired a used but nice copy of “Cairo: The City Victorious” from the bargain section at Half Price Books tonight for a buck. That was nice, I’m happy. :) Plus, it had a flat plastic bookmark hidden inside: it’s a cute cartoon purple monkey. :D Since it’s a cutout, you could hang it on the top of the page with its curved arms-legs-tail, but I’ll just keep it inside. Small, but that was nice as well…

Guys, I love your list of what has made you happy. I will agree with Kinzi here and say, “A thankful heart is a happy heart”. :) Nadine, I think you’re the first person I know who enjoys honking cars. Chris, a book bargain is best thing ever!

My 15 months old daughter using the potty “successfully” for the first time :)
and clapping to herself as she was listening to all the sound effects accompanying the event!
That’s what made me happy today!
