My Favorite Firefox 3.6 Config Tweaks

It’s no secret that I love Firefox, and what really makes me love it is how customizable it is.
I already told you about the plugins I have… and here are my favorite config tweaks.

How to edit your config preferences, type the following in your address bar:

about:config

Change minimum width of the tabs to 75 rather than 100: This makes your tab bar shorter, thus displaying more tabs before you have to scroll. Cool shit, yeah?
browser.tabs.tabMinWidth
Modified Value: 75

One close button to rule them all: My favorite setting! Make the close button only appear at the end of the tab bar, rather than at every tab.
browser.tabs.closeButtons
Modified Value: 3

Disable prefetching of sites: This will save up on your bandwidth, stopping FF from randomly guessing what you’re going to click and preloading them.
network.prefetch-next
Modified Value: false

Extend Spell check to forms: Add spell check to forms.
layout.spellcheckDefault
Modified Value: 2

Increase History Undo Close Tab Limit: Undo Close Tab 15 times rather than just ten (recently closed tabs)
browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo
Modified Value: 15

Always open tabs in far right: It’s really annoying when a tab opens next to another tab rather than at the end of the tab que where it belongs.

    Well, I could do all that and more with Tab Mix Plus, you should try it :)

    Well, it does all that with the exception of “include Extend Spell check to forms”.

    Also another neat feature (which I think is also from Tab Mix Plus) is restore last closed tab when I middle click on an empty space in the tab bar.

    Yaseen, yeah, you’re right, there are tons of great extensions, but config tweaks are awesome because you don’t have to worry about bogging down your install with extensions :)

    Thanks, I don’t think I’ve done any tweaks with firefox before. Although I kept the x on each tab, sometimes I wanna close one tab and not he whole thing.

    Where do you do you get info on firefox tweaks?

    Cool! I’ll have to try some of them out soon. The first two sound most pleasing. But at the moment, I’m not really in a fiddling mood. I was messing around with my MagicPrefs the other night and accidentally disabled all my main mouse functions, except Expose. Total freak-out. Took me an hour and a half to figure it out. Damn… :( :D

    Yeah… but it was pretty tough when both of your clicks just brought up Expose. But 1 out of 30 clicks was normal, so I just picked away at it. But as soon as I got everything workin’ fine and dandy, I put that rodent program where it’ll probably be most happy anyway—the trash! Sayonara!! I was right in the middle of organizing my YouTube vids, so that really sucked! If your interested in an eclectic mix of musical genres, it’s 0p0p0p. (Those are zeros, btw.) I gave my channel an Ohio State Buckeye theme. Lots of RED!! :D
