Top Five Food Combos

I’ve recently been thinking a lot about how some food tastes best with a certain other type of food or drink. As my mother would say, “Bejeeb ta3mo” (It will make it get its flavour).

It’s really quite true… so I made a list of my top five favorite food combos. You know, it just tastes better with…

Awesome food combos

What are your favorite combos?

For the none-image people: Shabura (seed rusks) with spread cheese (preferably Marai). Watermelon with white goat cheese (preferably jobneh nabelseyeh). Popcorn with Diet Pepsi. Green apples with peanut butter. Cheese pastries (mo3ajanat jobneh beida) with chocolate milk (preferably Al-Safi).

Recently I tried Kiwi with salt and it tasted great! The key is for the kiwi to be not too sweet. Guava with salt is also awesome.

  • lina

    MY EYES! MY POOR EYES!

  • http://joycefied.wordpress.com almondjoycie

Dr. Pepper is great with anything chocolate and baked, i.e. chocolate cookies, chocolate muffin

    Apple pie with cheddar cheese

But my favorite is any kind of fresh bread with salted margarine

Oh! and this one is calorie-free! Ice cold water after brushing your teeth!

  • zeid (ou za3tar)

My top fav. combo is : ZaiT ou Za3tar

Jebne jadayel ou hommos (as i mentioned it when u talk about jebne shelal )

I just had dinner they had apples and mayo (it was really good)

i like ma2lobet jaj (but this not the subject ) and mnoo5eyeh but u know the story behind that !

White goat cheese/watermelon? Hmm… I can’t quite wrap my head around that one. Anyway, I find peanut butter neatly placed in the celery groove, uh, quite pleasing. Though not for everyone, you can’t beat bacon and eggs! Got sticker-stuck? :D Yeah, look who’s talking! :P

  • http://meshx86.wordpress.com Mesh

sounds like WoW inventory (specially the white goat cheese.. i’ve seen that there :P)

    Regarding jObneh :P, i love it “M2ammarah 3al Man2al Fa7em” melting it down with a nabOlsi Kmaj !

Mara3i and shabura: used to ‘asif’ menhom alot , specially ones from Sufara’a Bakery.. and craft not mara3i..

I do not eat this “processed” stuff anymore, but i used to like Mortadella in pita bread and Miranda!
    :)

  • http://twitter.com/muhd Muhammad

Falafel sandwich (only falafel and bread without any “additions”) with Miranda (or any other orange soda), oh well I want that RIGHT NOW!

White cheese and watermelon is very popular in Egypt, the cheese is usually very salty (popular one there is called Barameeli Cheese). I want too! I miss Egypt :(

I also share with 7aki Fadi the love for jibneh nabulsyeh and za3tar w zait with tea, I’d usually add more sugar to the tea in this case.

Oh I forgot to say, I LOVE the design, the feel, colors and the type, awesome! I’d just give the title mote vertical space, I think this brilliant typeface needs more room to… breath.

i cant eat a hotdog if it doesnt have mustard on it

  • http://oeliwat.jeeran.com Ola

I’m a mess when it comes to food combos! My friend make fun of me all the time, for example:

    Tomatoes with za3tar
Cake with flavored yogurt (dunked and crushed in it)
    Labaneh with jam or cake

I can safely say that tomatoes and cheese are my favorite addition to almost anything, I can almost have tomatoes with soil, and I like to dunk anything into any hot drink

  • http://meshx86.wordpress.com Mesh

yea za3tar & tomato & cheese is a great combo,

reminds me be ka3k wo beed (or za3tar) ta3 el 3arabayat

    i bloody miss that !

    Salah Al-Deen Bakery too :()

    * Strawberry jam and spread cheese (preferably Kiri or Philadelphia) on white bread.
    * Anise biscuits, aka ka3ek dipped in tea with condensed sweetened milk, and a selection of different cheeses on the side.
    * Noddles, aka Indome with a slice of melted cheese on top, and a sprinkle of chopped parsley.
    * Grilled/ fried Aubergine with feta cheese sandwich.
    * Parmesan cheese (the grated cheap kind!) with melted butter on white bread (simple, sinful and comforting).
    * Qattayyef with Nutella and hazelnut.
    * Vanilla Ice cream in a glass topped with 7up.

… no wonder I never managed to realize my imaginary SLIM SELF ;)

    yummy …

  • Rula

  • http://andfaraway.net Roba

7aki, bread and butter is a fantastic combo! I love that shit. Sorry about the craving :) When are you visiting?

Ziad D, really? I can’t eat kiwis because I’m allergic to their fur :/ I will try guava with salt though :)

    Lina, shut up.

almondjoycie, apple pie with cheddar cheese is fantastic! :) Good list!

zeid (ou za3tar) I don’t know how I forgot jobneh beida with humous! good heads up, that one is AMAZING. :) (apple and mayo sounds icky)

Chis, oh you must try that :) It is REALLY good. I don’t really like celery so I doubt I’ll enjoy it with peanut butter. We don’t have much of it here so I’m not very used to its flavour. But you’re right, bacon and eggs are AWESOME. I love bacon. Thank god I’m Arab, or I would have weighed a million kilos by now thanks to my love of anything oily, fried, and full of transfat. Thankfully, our local breakfast has none of that :)

Mesh, yum, 3anjad zakyeh mashweyeh! And Mashawi! yummmmm. Well the packaged shabura is the one that’s good with that btw, try it now that you’re in the gulf :)

Summer, lol, ultimate childhood 3aroosa! :) Miranda is awesome. I must be the only adult with such an affixation towards the orange stuff.

Muhammad, it’s amazing how good Miranda is with falafel, I guess it’s the contrast. Wow, now I’m gonna go order myself a Miranda. It’s cool that you guys eat bateekh o jobneh too :) Since you love jobneh nabelseyeh, try it with bateekh :) amazinggg. As for the design, you are kind, given that it was a 3 minute job :) it’s quite kitschy :)

Mo, I know! It’s so lame without mustard! You know what I love? Honeymustard :)

Ola, 3afikra you’re right. Tomatoes are very good with everything! Even plain with a dash of salt, amazinggg. Never tried labaneh with cake, what kind of labaneh?

Heba, wow, that’s a good tip with the noodles with cheese! they always taste so bleh, i’m always trying to add a mllion things to them to give them some flavour, but it never works. cheese is a great idea! do you put it and cook it with it? or afterwards? and yummmm grilled aubergine with feta cheese sounds FANTASTIC :)

    Rare, which kind of labaneh?

    Rula, trust me! Try it!

  • heba

Roba, cook the noodles pour them in a bowl and while still steaming hot add a slice of cheese, it will melt in seconds, I also add a dash of sesame oil just 2 or 3 drops, it adds a rich smell and flavor to bleh noodles ;)

  • http://andfaraway.net Roba

    Thanks Heba! :)

  • D

    Milk & Potato Chips

Strawberries & Whipped Cream (feel free to flavor the whipped cream with Nesquik or Nescafe)

Lindt Orange Intense Dark Chocolate & Maxwell House Instant Coffee

Tea with Milk & Bo’somat (if you don’t have it in Jordan its like dried breadsticks with sesame)

Vanilla Ice cream with absolutely ANYTHING except meat (works well with bread, french fries, biscuits….etc.)
