The Decade’s Biggest Design Moments

Fast Company has compiled a list of what they see as the decade’s 14 biggest design moments. You can check out their slide show here, but let me share my favorites from their list.

1. The iPod. Released in 2001, the iPod might as well be the decades biggest design moment. It changed the way we interact with music, think of music, and buy music. Visually, the white earphones, clickwheel, and information architecture of the software itself have had tons of impact on other products.

2. Etsy. Taking the social web and transforming it into an online Sunday market kinda thing.

3. We Feel Fine. The 2000′s sparked the interest in beautiful information, and a new wave of infographs has come to the world.

4. The Wii. Nintendo takes a cue from Apple and reinvents gaming.

5. London 2012 Olympics Logo. Yeah, yeah, no one likes this logo (it has really grown on me in the past few years), but the backlash it released is certainly worth giving it a spot.

6. Shepard Fairey’s Obama poster.

They have it in the list because of the Associated Press case, but I think that the whole Obama campaign is worth mentioning for its design finesse.

Check out the other moments here.

My own additions to the list:

1. Facebook’s Redesigns, which also manage to get the whole world talking.
2. The iPhone not only changed the way phones look, but also the way of softwares, icons, websites, and a whole lot of other things.

iPhone would be my top one, including iTouch and the App Store system, Apple hits the sky with that and jobs did well don job saving Apple’s ass, iPhone won’t have any competitor unless it creates a designing, developing and marketing criteria for applications that can compete with App Store.

and yea, making your first 1,000,000 US$ of making an iFart application.

Couldn’t live without my iPod, so most definitely that one. Shepard Fairey’s Obama poster was cool. Though not for their intended purpose, I even liked the redesigned one that the stupid right-wing bloggers were passing around, had him wearing a keffiyah with the word ARAB at the bottom. A quick quibble. One of your reasons for not liking the MSN logo was that you thought the colors clashed. Hmmm :) Oh, a silly non-decade design take. Even though I like the new one, someone changed one of my favorite headers :/ :)

Mesh, I know,I agree with you. It definitely changed the scene of technology. Even how softwares are designed.

Chris, lol, I’ll throw another one at you soon that perhaps you’ll like more :)

    mo, really? How come?

I just love the touch interfaces used in Minority Report, there really cool, the transparent overlays and how they intersect and interact are really futuristic yet they are still believable and feels practical, its been 8 years since the movie was out, but when ever you see them, they never look outdated, i loved how they where used in the movie district 9, Ace.

now with LG releasing a transparent mobile device, it will be no time since they produce it using bendable transparent rubber, then our beloved japanese do their magic, then, ka booom, and the nanotechnology booms. OH MY GAUD, scary!!!
