Saving “Best” for last

Emails. The beauty of emails. The simplicity of emails. The awkwardness with emails.

I often go on typing rhythmically (and endlessly) until I halt when it comes to signing off.

My preferred choice would be

-Roba

but often, my emails are so short that just ending them with that seems like a brush-off, and othertimes, I’m emailing for work, and doing that seems to unprofessional.

So I often stop and think, matching “good-bye” words with people in my head. To use “Best” is a little too uptight. To use “Sincerely” is way to fourth grade. To use “Love” is way too personal. To use “xoxo” is way too 13. To use “Thanks” is a little cold. To use “See you” is a little to hopeful. To use just my name is a little weird.

Do you have a constant signing off phrase?

Idea inspired by this post.

I would say one of the following:

    1. Have fun.
    2. Good luck.
    3. See you.
    4. Enjoy.
    5. xx
    6. Good day.

When it’s formal I use kind regards, when it’s personal I hardly use anything at all

I used to go with “Talk to you later” or “Fuck off and die” if it was a personal email. In recent years I’ve taken to not signing off most the time unless it’s a very long email. It seems kind of weird to type three pages and then just stop.

Work emails, I usually try to close with something work related like “See you at the meeting!” or “Please respond ASAP” (implied – before I kick it up a notch) which is the equivalent of “Talk to you later” and “Fuck off and die”, I suppose. But even work emails I rarely sign if it’s a coworker I know well.

haha, although I don’t think that works too well with you :P

hm… what about “warm wishes” – I do like that one.

If it is an official mail I usually end with “I wish you a pleasant day. Looking forward to hearing from you” and then my name.

I like your blog! Thanks a lot.

    Best Regards

I tend to use a phrase to end my emails that is perceived by others as aloof, it goes as follows:
Please don’t hesitate to contact me, if I can be of further assistance to you!
