The Kuwaiti Parliament Adds a Zest of She

A few years ago, the Arab blogosphere was buzzing over the issue of Kuwaiti women getting to vote.

A few years later and Kuwait has women in parliament.

From a news source:

“Aseel al-Awadhi and Rula Dashti were declared among the first 10 winners in the third district, according to official results released today. Awadi came in second position while Dashti was in seventh place.

Former health minister Massouma al-Mubarak, who became the first Kuwaiti woman minister in 2005, and another female candidate, Salwa al-Jassar, also secured seats in parliament. Ms Awadhi was expected to win a seat, but no one predicted she would come in second place.

Sixteen female candidates were among the 210 hopefuls standing for the 50-seat parliament.

In the previous two elections no women won seats.”

    i would be happier if this happened in any country else Kuwait ..

    wanna know the reason ?

    Good reason #1. is no one in the parliament no matter man or woman can do any * to their country-nation or for the Arab countries-nations.
    (government do what USA says, and thats the price for protecting them in addition to oil barrels..)

    Good reason #2. the only motivation they got (no matter whom, men – women), is that once they win, they will have one of the features that no any parliament member will have.. a 5000 KD monthly salary till they die (even if the are not members any more) a political immunity, and a Diplomatic Red Passport.

    would you mind having 5000 KD per month for doing NOTHING ?

    after 23 years of my experience in this life (and 5 years in Kuwait), i personally honestly don’t mind that !

    * : to non computer geeks,* means anything in computer , i.e *.mp3 : all mp3 files.
