On 3D Animations

So seriously, why is it that 3D animations have caught on so well? I mean, they’re sort of ugly. Plus, they are half-way between a movie and a really cool, simple, 2D illustration based cartoon. Yeah, I’m not saying every single 3D animation was bad, there were some great ones, but in general, it’s much easier to screw up 3D and end up with a whole bunch of lack of taste.
Do you like 3D animations or would rather see 2D ones?

I just recently watched Marjane Satrapi’s “Persepolis” and hey, what a great film! It was amazing to see something hand-drawn. Hand-drawn! Didn’t expect that to exist anymore. This spirit can’t be replaced by any animation.

But for the 3D stuff: Yeah, most of them are ugly. But they will become better with time… the problem is that absolutely idiotic attitude that everything must be high end. Often it’s not about quality but about being up-to-date – if it’s software published when it has barely become beta or graphics made with tools which should be sent back to their developers…

3d animation sek3at, some are really cool
I can’t imagine that shrek movie would be nice in 2d !

So i guess, simply it depends on the type of the animation , no preference

I don’t watch cartoons and animated movied anymore, but I prefer watchig a movie in 3-D. I’m also disappointed that we are not able to watch live sport games in 3-D. I assume this is something we should be able to do but I’m not sure where’s the industry on this.

Exactly. Disney-like movies have lost their luster, what’s the point of a 3D animation when it aims to “almost” look real. Bring back 2D!
