وعلى عكس ماهو متوقع من – المدونين السعوديين – وبالأخص مناصري حرية الرأي و التعبير ، فقد كانت ردة الفعل ضعيفة للغاية إن لم تكن على استحياء ، وهو مشهد أعاد لي بعض الذكريات بخصوص ردود فعل المدونين الضعيفة ضد الأحداث التي تُهمنا أكثر كـ مسلمين ، مثل موضوع الرسوم الدنماركي و “باب” الفاتيكان وغيرها ، لاسيما عند مقارنتها بـ ردود الفعل التي نشاهدها عندما يدور الحديث حول اصلاح سياسي لا يحمل من الإصلاح سوى الإسم ، أو قيادة المرأة ، أو حقوق الإنسان، أو إنتقاد للسياسات الداخلية للبلد – هل غلاء الأسعار أهم ، أم الدفاع عن الإسلام ؟ -

Translation, referring to the dutch movie “Fitna”, which I hate to be mentioning, as in my humble opinion, it is not worth the mention:

“Contrary to what is expected from Saudi bloggers, especially those who are supporters of freedom of expression, the subtle reaction has brought back memories of similar subtle reactions from the bloggers when it came to events that matter the most to us as Muslims, such as the Danish cartoons and the Vatican “door” and other similar events. Especially when compared to the huge reactions that we see when it comes to discussions about political reform, women driving, human rights, and criticism of internal politics. What is more important- the rising cost of living, or defending Islam?”

    In any way, he was not supposed to generalize and say تُهمنا أكثر كـ مسلمين
    Based on what he he spoke on behalf of ALL Muslims?! Did he ask everyone?

    I am a Muslim. I am ashamed by Muslims. It’s really hard to fight the negative image non-Muslims have of us when everyday we just give them more fodder.

    Have you watched ‘Fitna’? I just did. Yes, it’s pretty much 15 minutes of constant fear-mongering, but, honestly, it’s not like he made up any of the things he showed. I mean, seriously, an entire PEOPLE is pissed at a couple of DRAWINGS? THREE YEARS LATER? Seriously?

    I know I’m probably going to be viciously lambasted by everyone and their mothers, but I don’t really care. Sticks and stones, right?

    Talal: don’t worry about the film: very few Westerners take the film at face value. We’re trained in being critical about _everything_ including other ppl’s religion. If I say: “some Muslims abuse the teachings of the Prophet to justify blowing sh** up” am I offending anyone by making a (wrong or right) observation ? The image of my statement would be the bomb-in-turban cartoon BTW. Nothing to it.

    loooool ya3ni it’s either or?

    Islam puts more importance on elements of social justice that include education, costs of living, equality, health care, freedoms, denouncing terrorism, and yes, democracy (in the non-anglo-saxen sense of the word). And I would think, based on the life he lead and the example he set, the Prophet pbuh would be more concerned with the Muslim fight to achieve these elements as opposed to caring about what some cartoonist doodled in his sketch book one day, or what the Pope got up in the morning and decided to say one day.

    those are merely nonsense issues used to distract the masses from the real issues. we should all be focusing less on what the non-muslim world believes islam represents, and more on bringing back the ideals that Islam truly represents; ideals that have gone the way of the dodo.
