Browser Battles

For some reason or another, I am actually really into browser wars. I guess I sort of feel like my browser is almost the most important part of my computer, making my journeys through the world wide web either really comfortable and fun or computer-smashing annoying.
I think one of the most important changes I ever did when it comes to my browsing habits is switch to Firefox back in 2004.
A huge part of me still can’t believe that most people still put themselves through the stupidity of Internet Explorer.

From Microsoft Watch:

Enterprises are holding onto IE 6 and giving Firefox some love. Enterprise IE adoption
dropped from 88.7 percent to 78.7 percent in 2007 with gains mainly
going to Firefox, according to a new report.

Browser Adoption 2007

Get Firefox.

i think there is sth wrong in the graph, am sure there are more firefox users than that .
anyway, IE7 was a good advance for m$ , but still it didnt meet the standards, .. but IE8 is meeting them, its meeting the internet standards in an annoying way ! but if they worked hard on it, it can be a good competitor to firefox 3

According to my geeky friends I should be using konqueror instead of firefox, but to now I’m staying with ff. And I’m proud to say 52,6 % of my blog readers use firefox :) (Germany is the country with the highest rate of firefox users in the world).

    Firefox ftw.
IE 8 will never match FF 3, Opera 9.5 or Safari 3.5

Btw Internet explorer 6 was released in 2001, Internet explorer 7 was released in 2006, that’s a 5 year difference, yet now only 2 years later another version of Internet explorer is getting released, competition is good.

Firefox 3 beta and Safari 3.5 beta are going crazy on increasing their performance, each new nightly build one of them tops the other on charts, I’m glad considering how slow Firefox 2 is.

Safari 3.5 beta and Opera 9.5 beta both passed the Acid 3 test on nightly builds, or so I heard, that’s promising considering how high they think of standards, I doubt Firefox 3 will be passing Acid 3 test :( but it gets around 76/100 which is not bad, Internet Explorer 8 gets 17/100.

Those Facts and numbers could be wrong, I haven’t slept in a long time and I have a messy memory, so I may have dreamed of some this.

yaseen, the thing is , developers doesnt follow internet standards, so ACID is no big deal .. it just shows how evl M$ is, making ppl follow its rules
anyway, sure of ACID3 test results on IE8 ?

m7md, I was wrong, IE 8 gets 18/100 and according to microsoft they have no plans to pass the test :P.

Don’t generalize, many developers follow standards, and standards are important for developers that follow them, if all browsers follow the standards then all I have to do is make sure my web application follows the web standards and it’ll be cross browser compatible.

I’d have to agree with you, ie is retarded. I used to use firefox until i encountered a problem. some pop up message (warning). Now I’m using flock – social browser, also designed & released by Mozilla
