First, here’s a review by my friend:

The Milano experience was excellent , but with a few little things that hurt its overall rating. The loud noises from the next door construction site may ruin the fanciful atmosphere you seek when going for an Italian dinner.

The overall setting of the place was very cozy (although I preferred the table covers when they where checkered red and white, other than the current green and white), and the chairs were not very comfortable.

The food was good,  but make sure to avoid the Palmito Salad (we still cannot decide if that was actually palmito slices or boiled egg whites), but the staff did not mind replacing it and they suggested a delicious Greek salad with an excellent dressing (although we kept wondering why all their salads are served warm) . The fettuccini was the best we had in Amman and the Salmon was good, but not exactly worth its cost.

I will also chime in with my own 2 cents: Milano was one of the restaurant landmarks of Amman at a point in the early 90′s when the locals first started getting acquainted with the “eating out” culture. Sadly, other restaurants that opened around the same period and which had its status have mostly either gone out of business (Mama Mia, Leonardo Da Vinci) or turned into nightclubs (New York, New York, Alfredo).

Although I’ve heard people talk nostalgically about first dates in Milano when it was one of the most expensive restaurants in town, last night was the first time I try it, and I daresay that the place is quite enchanting. We sat outside in the courtyard, where a faded out attempt at an Italian-style wall mural that covers the fence has started looking like an ancient fresco and where the facades of the building itself are covered with gorgeous evergreen foliage. The cobblestone floor, the dim lights, and the effortlessly graceful airs of the restaurant are lacking in the newer Ammanite Italian eateries. Empty but for 3 tables, it is easy to imagine the happier days of the courtyard of Milano; the crowded energy, the chaos of voices and tinkling glasses, and waiters bustling all over the place.

I really enjoyed the time we spent there, and will definitely visit it again; if not for the lovely ambiance at the courtyard and the very good pasta, then for how I feel when I am at Milano. It reminds me of all the good things I used to love about Amman as a child, it reminds me of my parents taking us out for dinner to Tom and Jerry’s down the street from Milano, and of the first time I tried fettuccine.

Personally recommended item: Fettuccine Alfredo with Mushrooms.

Ah, Milano’s first dates…the memories, the food, the setting..I love that place:) amazing pizzas, salads and sandwiches!

Milano is one of my favorite places in Amman, because it is pretty quiet and it is the kind of place that isn’t extra busy, but isn’t dead, and it’s a great spot for nice lunches. Also the staff has been the same since forever and they’re extra friendly. They always play music from Mood FM (which I really appreciate), so you won’t hear songs by Celine Dion or Britney Spears.

Try their chicken dishes, they are simply superb (I strongly recommend their Chicken Kiev), and you can tell that the ingredients are fresh (unlike other restaurants that buy frozen foods).

But about the parking, there is a parking lot right next to Babiche, you can park your car there and pay the guy that rents the lot. Or, you can park next to the Orient Gallery and walk up to Milano; I still don’t understand why do Jordanians need to park right in front of the place? You can always park an extra few meters away and just walk, no? Speaking of parking lots, why won’t the GAM turn the vacant plot next to the Haya Cultural Center into parking spaces?

Pheras, there’s construction happening now at that space that used to be parking, and there aren’t any proper parking places within a 10 minute walk to Milano.

Yeah Milano is yummy, but yummier is Houston in Shmeisani. The difference between both is the “final touch” not in appearance but rather in taste! There’s something missing in Milano.Dunno. And their Fettuccine is a bit heavy

*A must in Houston is the chicken with mushroom and cheese. Ohhhhh baby

Roba, can you give price ranges in your reviews as well please? I’m sure this is very important.

  • http://confessionsofavegetarianshark.blogspot.com/ Ammar

One of my favorite places in amman is milano..besides the memories..the food is nice, the pizza though gets smaller every time i go back to amman and eat there, I also like their greek salad..Gamal the head waiter is Kewl..he’s been in Jordan for the better half of twenty years!

weird enough though..there’s no restaurant in milano called amman, that would’ve been nice.

Anyhoo, I LOVE Milano, their Pizza is REALLY really good; and guess what I used to love there too? Their Tuna Melt Sandwich , it’s to die for; the best I’ve had anywhere really.

Tab, when did Ma Ma Mia close :( , this is sad news for me :(. I used to love their Mozzorella sticks and their mushroom appetizers :(

By the way, this review thing is really cool, when I come to Amman I will be ready to attack all the places you recommend :D

just a hint, when you do not mark any stars like in “parking” above, it reflects that you cannot evaluate their parking situation. If you wanna say it was miserable you can mark one satr (or half a star).

was my comment edited? Or did I by mistake not submit the whole comment? Just wondering :)

7aki-fadi, i think your comment was edited, you’re not allowed to use this degree of profanity here

    (hehe j/kidding)

I forgot to comment about Milano, I hate the club but love the restaurant, one thing about it which is somewhat unique…. tha ham-eaters and there isn’t many of them , it’s one of the few restaurants in Jordan that has ham and cheese in its menu , hope they didn’t cancel that item! it tatsted so damn good

i think that milano is the perfect place to eat in and have a good time because of their high quality of food and they have the best grilled shrimps platter and just by saying it it gives me goose pumps and it feels just like home to me because i used to go there with my parents when i was a kid… and i give all the thanks to Jamal and Basem for their hospitality.. and without the owners of the restaurant there wouldnt be a Milano. from my side i have no comment on anything milano serves and even the palmito salad is Sooooooooooo DELICIUOS , sorry for being too honest with you guys but the truth has to be told eventually!

It is hard to believe that one place in Amman has kept the same standard for over 20 years. I have been Milano’s cleint since high school in 1987. I am just addicted to this place.

  • basem silwadi

It used to be practically like the only restaurant in Amman until few years ago. Now, I have so many other choices. But the fact is I keep missing Milano and go there for the good taste of food, service, and memories.

I’ve travelled quite alot in my life, and Milano’s food is second to none.
Leen, this is a review about Milano, i mean, what you said is completly irrelevant and just for the record Romeiro is not that big of a deal compared to Milano.
Leave if you have deemed Milano not up to your standards.
Milano’s pizza is the best I have ever tasted in my lifetime…trust me,I have been around quite a long time.
The restaurant itself has a cozy, familial atmosphere thanks to the excelent service and incredible hospitality that the owners of the restaurant offer any guest that walks in.
There is so much to say about Milano, that one simple post will not suffice to express how gratefull I am that such a restaurant exists.
The clean, healthy food they serve is just ravishing, especially the palmito slices and their refined pizzas, Milano remains number one in my heart.
For those who do not know Milano very well should try the Margherita pizza, it is to die for.

Hey Reem, I was wondering what was so offensive in my comment that you had to delete it.
This is a review, and I have all the right in the world to post my own opinion.
Please provide me with an explanation.
    Thank You.

3rrab, although we don’t know one another, yet I am complimented for your sweet thoughts of Milano.Your remarks of Milano Restaurant is a certificate I am very proud of and would hang on the wall of my restaurant. Again, your encouragement to us makes us more than ever determined to keep the standard my wife and I had done for the last 20 years.

Please, next time you are at Milano Restaurant I urge you to introduce yourself.

    hmmmm…. Where do I begin ?
Milano has consistent, tasty , and most importantly fresh food. I have NEVER been disappointed . I think this is the BEST restaurant I have ever eaten at in my nearly 40 years. Milano feels like a home for me.
I would also like to take the opportunity to give a special thank you to the owners of the restaurant for doing an excellent job if not perfect.

No , I would not give it a rating of 5/5 but I will not hesitate to give it a 10/5

    Bravo Milano!
