2012 Olympics

When I first saw the logo for the London 2012 Olympics, I thought the hip-hop inspired version was a pun. I’m all for bright pink, but this just doesn’t look sportish, and the font for “London” is sort of weird. I also thought that the blocks were too random to be done by a professional designer or brand expert.

The other reason I thought that that Must be a pun is because there are many puns on the logo going around, just like this Goatse variant that was mentioned on some blog:

The BBC also has some more logos submitted by their users.

So what do you think of the logo? Hot or not?

I’m pro the logo. I find it.. nice. But is nice good enough? The one submitted by James Wren on the BBC site was appealing to me as well. The rest aren’t really something I’d like or go for, but I’m a loser when it comes to art/design! :)

I really hate it, but considering I will not be able to run away from it being everywhere for the next 5 years! I have to find a way to like it! Not sure how?! Any suggestions or tips will be welcome

My objection is not about the cubes (someone said they look like a disfigured swastika !) but about the fact that they do not contain the five colors of the olympic games, same mistalke that Sydeny made. Olympics are about variety of color and many other things

According to AFP, Bob Neill, 2012 Olympics spokesman for the main British opposition Conservative Party described the logo as “hideous”. Other reactions from the British public? “This logo makes me embarrassed to be English,” said one. Other stated, “It looks like it could have been done by a six-year-old. I could do better with my eyes closed.”

Neill goes on to say, “Questions need to be answered as to how we have ended up in this situation. Was there an open competition to supply the designs? If so, what on earth do the rejected ones look like?”

nope didnt like it at first…and still dont like it….but i have hopes for it…that it will look better later on…its not sporty and i dont find in it the olympic thingy…maybe its different than the ones b4 where it had to be really “grand” ( i guess thats the right word for it), why i have hopes for it, is that teh english has this weird kinda phunky( again i guess thats the right word for it) style in representing them selves….thats what i see in it the are representing theri style more than going globaly and representing the whole world in their logo

    I think it sux.
However it’s not “media friendly” like other corporate logos you see around, which is a refreshing change. Seems logos are always too expensive yet people don’t like them. Apparently the Conservative party new logo a few yrs back cos a stupid sum like 1/2 million pounds but looks like a squiggle.

With so many delays to the buildings, I wonder if they will be as fast putting them up as they were with the logo.

I am not an expert in graphic design … but rememeber that its gonna be the slogan for 2012 so the designer may have a better idea what the trend will be then… and remember for the olyimpics the logo should be used to represent the sports ,,, and if u look for it u will find some of his usage of the same blocks of graffiti for different sports which is very innovative …

The english are way better ahead-lookers than us … so we shouldnt argue alot i suppose …
