Realization

I’ve been sitting here trying to squeeze creative energy nonstop for the past 50 hours, minus the 10 minutes for lunch and the 4 hours of daytime sleep.

The day is still long ahead.

It’s so gloomy outside.

Gonna be one of those weeks!

Well, it’s good, major for a girl in Jordan and it will be more prof if you continue outside Jordan, at least Syria or Lebanon.

Well it’s a good major for a girl in Jordan, and if you like it you could be more prof outside Jordan, like Syria or Lebanon at least.

Hang in there Roba, it will pass. I remember exactly a year ago when I was working on my graduation project. It sucked but it will pass and you’ll miss it and look back at all the endless cramming and hours with a smile!

    Good luck!

Damn it Roba! I think you’ve beaten my record for this month, I went 30 hours with no sleep.

Don’t listen to them, it is taking tooooo long….anyways best time to get things done is around 3:30-5 am , that’s when your brain actually works on its own, you find yourself writing something without knowing what ur doing..
Anyways, lesson learned: You could do it the Jordanian way: CoBy-Baste get done in 8 hours,or stay up for 50 hours for the next three months, get the highest grade and feel proud….

Good luck with it, later on we should compete who gets more sleeping, I’m just sick of this, 3 months of 4hrs/day sleeping.

    Sam
if you like it you could be more prof outside Jordan, like Syria
Professional in Syria?Syria? No offense or something and I’m not saying this because I’m Lebanese, but I don’t see how you can have the word professional and Syria in one sentenced without using “not”

  • Sam_carpenter

I’m not defending Syria, but at least they appreciate art, some people could not afford to go and study in Lebanon or other countries, at least Syria could be a good place rather than Jordan dude.

  • http://andfaraway.net Roba

Sam, what are you talking about? Syria? What do they have in Syria when it comes to design? Not much at all! Lebanon do have a great creative field, but what’s wrong with the local scene? And what? Good for a girl? What the hell? That’s so sexist. What difference does it make if it’s a girl or a guy? In Jordan or on Mars?

  • http://andfaraway.net Roba

And Syria appreciates art more than Jordan? How are you justifying that statement? Seriously, I just want to hear your rhetoric. Who are you talking about exactly in both art scenes that appreciates art more?

  • http://ikbis.com/sam_carpenter/shots Sam_carpenter

Roba, I’m not talking about design, sure Jordan better than Syria in design, but at least they appreciate “The Art” more, they way of thinking related to Lebanon and France more.. “Simplicity”. Tell me how many male painters that you know, making they living from by selling they paints, don’t tell me mohannad dorrah, or Sa’eed Haddadeen or any big shot names, which they have high connection by the way. People who purchase a paint in Jordan when they visit a gallery, they just buy it to showoff “Mostly” not every one; they get jealous from each others. I witness that, and a lot of youth and old artists in Jordan told me that too.

I think Jordan community changing so fast for better, and sure its better for a woman because to be a painter for a male is very hard, I’m sure he can’t ever think to purchase a condo. lol.

Maybe I know about art, maybe not, but that not important, what is important is the true life experience.

Not to side with either one of you guys. For all we know historically (And Roba, you should be the first line of advocacy for this) Is that Damascus has always been a very cultural capital, Art, Design, Music, craftsmanship and many innovations came from it. Lebanon too is very cultural and has many very talented artists. (not to mention, Egypt and Iraq)
Unfortunately, if we take that little patriotic blindfold for a few minutes, we’ll discover that sadly Jordan lags behind. We don’t have as many writers, poets, musicians, designers, painters or anything. And it’s something that we need to work harder on and with time and the right guidance we can probably reach such levels as neighboring countries.

As for Lebanon and Syria, would the twin please just get along!

Qwaider, you do make a very valid point, and I admit that I was ticked off by the disparagingly sexist and inferior undertones, but anyway… to say a few points, in my very humble opinion:
    1) Lebanon is DEFINITELY many steps above all the Arab world when it comes to culture. I will never argue that.

    2) Although historically, Syria is rich with culture, it is parallel to the one we have as we were ruled by the same consecutive rulers (except to say that Syria was the base for the Ummayad rule, but we have some of their art, like the desert castles such as Qusayr Amra which is full of art frescos).
They also have better infrastructure to support art (The Fine Arts Department in The University of Damascus is both big and well endowed).
More modernly though, I would say, that in my own humble opinion, Jordan is in slightly better shape as the Syrian regime (though it supports art) does it in the same way that Saddam did it.. a lot of support for those who do the sort of “Propoganda art” and not much for those who use art as a tool for freedom of speech. There is a lot of pressure on artists and a lot of stress, so I don’t see how continuing there would be better than Jordan!
Lebanon aside, at the current time, the only country that’s really worth saying is good is of course, Egypt.
Iraq had a brilliant art scene, but with the current situation, that has unfortunately gone downhill.

    3) With more modern art, such as design, which is my field of specialization, Jordan is MOST DEFINITELY way above Syria.

Sam, I do know guys who make a life out of selling their art. We have a lot more male artists than female artists.

I think he was just thinking in Arabic, and writing in English. I doubt he wanted to make a sexist remark.. especially trying to pass it as a compliment.
What do you think? (I recommend cutting him some slack)

I too have artists making a living our of their work in Jordan. And Jordanians elsewhere.
Hopefully we’ll have more world class artists soon
