Light Catching
Today was our first Sunset Saturday success story. We caught the sunset at its exact time at the precise place we wanted to be.
All our previous plans at attempting to catch the sunset have been failing miserably for a while, even though they sometimes involved racing through the mountains and hills while trying to follow the sinking sun. We’d always head back to where we started, disappointed at our failure, and planning another day for another attempt.
Our sun-catching destination today was Um Il Soos. We drove out of Amman and past a little village (which had a freaky sign warning pedestrians from walking around the area), after which we kept driving until we “found” (literally) the Um Il Soos forest.
The forest is actually a forest, with a spread of shadowy and meandering trees. There were two paths that led into the forest, but not even my friends’ begging could coo me into driving into such a forbidding place, so there are no pictures of that. Instead, we kept driving with the forest on our left, until we got to a part of the mountain where we looked directly down the valley and across to the spread of stark mountains.
Photographs taken with my 3.2 Megapixel Canon and words typed digitally could never do Um Il Soos justice. I can’t wait to go there in spring.
