Rock N’Roll is here to stay

I love Rock N’Roll. Seriously, I do, I actually think it’s my favorite music genre, so when I heard that we were going to learn to rock and roll in my dancing class I got quite excited. I mean, besides the fact that I love it, I’m a LOT more likely to rock and roll in Amman than actually waltz (ha, waltz in Amman).

Then I discovered that his inspiration for Rock N’Roll isn’t John Jett or AC/DC, but rather, Micheal Jackson at the peak of his Thriller moonwalking career or John Travolta in shaking struttin’ his stuff in Grease.

Damn it.

Michael Jackson? Michael Jackson is hip-hop or R&B. He is not rock in any serious sense. It is true that early rock had its origins mostly in blues music (and, to a lesser extent, country), but Michael Jackson? John Travolta in Grease? You’ve got to be kidding me.

Introduce him to some Alice in Chains, Slayer, or Metallica or even just some Rolling Stones, George Thorogood, Chris Isaak, Eagles, or Pink Floyd.

Inspiration for rock, Joan Jett or AC/DC.. hmm.. you just threw away 30 years of rock n roll hisroty there.. Bill Haley, Frank Zappa, n Motown.. *sigh*

Come on guys, this isn’t a debate about the characteristics of each music genres, it’s about teaching Jordanian kids to moonwalk :P

Bas anyway, since it’s being discussed, let’s be clear that rock n’roll is NOT rock, rock is rather a sub genre of rock n’roll. So when I say “Rock N’Roll” I can mean anyone from The Bee Gees to Micheal Jackson to Queen.

Personally, I don’t like System of a Down either. As a huge fan of the likes of Led Zeppelin, Ac/Dc, The Who, and Queen; I refer to System of a Down as sissy rock ;)

But as MQabbani said, music is art, and each person reflects upon what he likes, and I guess I like my music loud and bangy (and not depressed).

Tommy, yup, Micheal Jackson is R&B, but he was double-inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so sue them :P

Omar, lol. Tell me about it.
