Books, books, books

hmm-2144

I don’t think anything excites me as much buying a new book, and in the past few months, I’ve bought a very large amount, the latest being bought today. So exciting.
Here are some of the books waiting on my shelf for their turn to be read,

1. “Orientalism”, Edward Said
2. “Palace Walk”, Naguib Mahfouz
3. “What is Typography?”, David Jury
4. “Seeret Madinah” (Tale of a City), Abdulrahman Muneef
5. “Pop: Truth and Power at the Coca Cola Company”, Constance Hays
6. “The Best Tables, Chairs, Lights”, Mel Byars
7. “1,000 Greetings”, Peter King
8. “The Historian”, Elizabeth Kostova
9. “Graphic Design America”,

a lot of people find orientalism a bit boring or dry so you might fall asleep, but wake yourself up and pay attention!

historian is also pretty good. palace walk as well.

    happy reading!

Oriantalism is hard book as Nas said (I read the arabic translation) and need time but worth it ,I thought its the best book for Edward Said until I read (Culture and Imperialisim) that book alternate my thought an let to discover the dark face of many of west writters who I used to love them…
Palace Walk its as any thing wrote by Najib Mahfouz great (you can see my small post about him at http://www.maktoobblog.com/amjad_h2o?post=90744 )

I think you will enjoy Seret Madina.. it’s a great book

I tried to read Orientalism, and just couldn’t get into it. It seemed his topic was “romantic ideas that Westerners have about Arabs that aren’t true” (in the ’70s). I would rather read what IS true about Arabs than dwell on what is not. Maybe I’ll try it again some other time.

I love ur book list, I especially like Mneef’s Seret Madineh and ofcourse orientalism, I spent so much time reading that book, it was s “full”.

Let’s start Seeret Madinah together ;) I’ve had it for over a year and started it but didn’t get to finish it. It really is a great book, and makes you want to go look for all of those places mentioned in old Amman… the stories of the people and places are fascinating.

And what is this Graphic Design America book?

i wish you pass this reading-virus to the rest of the jordanian people.

what a shame. someone (mr. batir i think) wrote recently about how jordanians hate to read.

recently finished reading the da vinci code in arabic which i got from aramex in amman (read the english one 2 years ago, was dissappointed by the movie).

    now reading : liar’s poker…

My pile has been sitting like that since months and months:D

Interesting list! Mahfouths triology is my current attack!

Interesting collection, though I also find it strange that you would read ‘Palace Walk’ in English, and Rami reading ‘The Da Vinci Code’ in Arabic after reading it in English is even stranger. :p

    Congratulations for the new books!
I haven’t bought one for over a year now, but since I live in a country with a library in every corner, I get to read alot of books without buying them. I LOVE buying books, but they are too expensive here…
