I was really surprised when this shirt was the first thing I saw when I opened my monthly email with the latest good from Elsewares:
Quoting from the product page, “A t-shirt that says New York – in Arabic. Everything looks cooler in Arabic. Printed on American Apparel.”
Everything looks cooler in Arabic… I’m amused.
I must agree though that Arabic is a very beautiful language to work visually with- it allows for a lot of playing space that English can’t cater to. I also can’t help but notice the funkified font- it’s sort of like Arabic meets English, which highlights the fact that it’s designed for a “hip”, fashion-conscious audience rather than one that is interested in the culture.
Wow, the hip-ization of Arabic. That’ll be a very interesting design/fashion trend to keep an eye on.
